Minimalism & Stoicism

Today I was asked how I keep everything straight and make progress every day, in relation to business ventures.

The short answer is focusing on what matters.

1. I'm an absolute minimalist. I haven't owned a TV since 2013. I haven't owned a car since 2012. My current apartment's square footage is that of a standard sized college dorm room. It's so small, there is no oven. All of my clothes can fit into 1 suitcase, and 1 duffel bag. My possessions must bring purpose, in both the present and future. If at any time something stops providing purpose, it's gone.

2. I strive to be stoic. Poker teaches you the hard way that it's not good to mix emotion into an area which requires extreme logic and game theory, in order to succeed. This is also true in business, and (most) other areas of life. Stoicism isn't about hiding emotion--I still feel everything. Stoicism is about the choice to not display emotions; to not let emotions get the best of a situation. I believe that stoicism teaches you how to complain less.

If you have less, you'll have more time to focus on what matters.

If you complain less, you'll have more time to focus on what matters.
